Most PrivateStay listings are private. When you visit a listing you have not been approved for, you will see an access gate instead of the full listing. Requesting access is straightforward.
How to request access
- Visit the property link shared with you
- Click Request Access on the access gate
- Sign in to your PrivateStay account — or create a free one if you don't have one yet
- Write your connection note (optional but recommended)
- Submit your request
The connection note
The connection note is a short message (up to 400 characters) explaining who you are and how you know the host or came across their listing. This is your introduction — it is the first thing the host reads when reviewing your request.
Good examples:
- "Hi, I'm a friend of Sarah's — she mentioned you rent your place in Tuscany and suggested I reach out."
- "I found your listing through the private travel group on Telegram. We're a couple looking for a quiet week away in September."
Less useful examples:
- "I'm interested in your property."
- (leaving it blank)
The connection note does not guarantee approval — the host decides at their discretion — but a genuine, specific note makes a good impression.
What happens after you submit
- If the property is set to manual approval: Your request is sent to the host, who will review it and decide whether to approve or block. There is no guaranteed timeline.
- If the property is set to auto-approval: You are approved immediately and gain access to the full listing right away.
You will receive an email notification when your request is approved.
If you don't hear back
Hosts are not obligated to respond to every request, and there is no deadline for a decision. If you need the property for a specific date, it is worth reaching out via another channel (email, phone, mutual contact) to let the host know you have submitted a request.
Can I resubmit a request?
If your request has been blocked by the host, you cannot resubmit. If it is still pending, it remains active until the host makes a decision — you do not need to resubmit.
